Sam was appointed Managing Director and Head of Investment
Banking in October 2014.  Sam joined First NZ Capital in 2006 after eight
years in Australia with Greenhill Caliburn, one of Australia’s leading
independent mergers and acquisitions advisory firms.

Sam has a wide range of domestic and international clients
and has extensive experience in domestic and cross border mergers and
acquisitions, financings and capital raisings.

Sam is also a Director on the First NZ Capital Board.

Dave is a Director in our Investment Banking team. He joined the firm in 2007 after five years in the derivatives practice of a leading London law firm and since joining has advised a broad range of New Zealand and international clients on mergers, acquisitions, divestments, equity offerings and debt issues and capital raisings.

Clients Dave has advised include Auckland International Airport, Contact Energy, Credit Agricole, Diligent Board Member Services, Fletcher Building, Pacific Equity Partners, Pyne Gould Corporation, Rabobank and SKYCITY Entertainment. Dave advised Pyne Gould Corporation, MARAC, CBS Canterbury and Southern Cross Building Society on their merger to form the only New Zealand controlled, listed financial services group.

Dave holds Bachelor degrees in Commerce (Finance) and Law (Honours) from the University of Otago.

Brent Pattison is a Director of Investment Banking for First NZ Capital. He joined the firm in 2015, having previously held a Director role with Forsyth Barr. Brent has extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions, divestments for domestic and international clients. He has been involved in a number of debt and equity capital raisings.

Recent IPO's include Metro Performance Glass, Evolve, Arvida, and Fliway. Brent has a sector focus on financial sponsors, property and aged care, telecommunications/IT and financial services. Prior to a career in Investment Banking Brent held senior financial and management positions within the Telecommunications and Financial Services industry.

Brent has a Bachelor of Business Studies and is a member of NZICA.

Jonathan is a Director of Investment Banking. He has joined us following four and a half years as CFO of Trade Me, and prior to that was CFO of House of Travel for three years. He has worked for Lion Nathan for 16 years, holding a variety of roles in Australia, China and New Zealand, including NZ Strategy Director and more than four years as NZ Finance Director.

Jonathan has had a strong career in corporate finance, sales and marketing, and strategy and has advised and lead acquisitions in brewing, logistics, wholesaling, retailing, travel, media and technology sectors. He has been a Director in numerous industries, is a member of NZICA, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance first class honours) and a Post Graduate Diploma (Economics) from Auckland University.

Henry is a Director of Investment Banking. He joined the firm in early 2011 with two years experience as a corporate solicitor at Russell McVeagh where he specialised in capital markets, securities offerings and takeovers.

At First NZ Capital, Henry has advised on the IPOs of Mighty River Power, Synlait Milk, Genesis Energy and Scales Corporation. He has also been involved in raising additional equity for Argosy Property and Refining NZ and secondary offers of shares in Tower and Xero.

In addition to his experience in all types of equity offerings, Henry has advised on a diverse range of mergers, acquisitions and divestments including, the internalisation of the management contract of Kiwi Income Property Trust, the divestment of Beaurepaires by Goodyear, the divestment of Dairy Technology Services by NDA and the sale of Kapiti Landing.

Henry has Bachelor degrees in Commerce (Finance) and Law (Honours) from the University of Auckland.

Andrew joined the firm in 2001 and is a Vice President of the Investment Banking team. He has advised on over $3 billion of retail debt issuance for New Zealand and international clients, including Rabobank, Telecom, Auckland Airport, Contact Energy, New Zealand Post, Quayside Holdings, Credit Agricole, Infratil and Wellington Airport.

Andrew has significant experience in the forestry sector, advising on over $6 billion of forestry transactions for Kiwi Forests, International Paper, Carter Holt Harvey and Matariki Forests. He has also completed a range of M&A and equity transactions for clients such as AMP NZ Office Trust, Xero, Woolworths, Auckland City Council, Rank Group and Pacific Equity Partners.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Management Studies (Hons) in Economics and Finance, and a Master of Management Studies from the University of Waikato.

Justin is a Vice President in the Investment Banking team having joined First NZ Capital in 2015. He has previously worked for Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank in London in their respective investment banking teams.

Justin has worked on a wide variety of transactions involving M&A (sell-side and buy-side), ECM (IPOs and rights offerings), DCM (investment grade and high yield) as well as restructurings, predominantly in the healthcare space. He has experience across different jurisdictions having worked on projects in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Justin has Bachelor degrees in Commerce and Law (Hons) as well as an MBA.

Graham is a Vice President in our investment banking team. He joined the firm in early 2013 with 3 years of Corporate Finance experience at PwC, where he specialised in Mergers & Acquisitions, Business Valuations and Strategy.

At First NZ Capital, Graham has advised on a diverse range of Mergers & Acquisitions; including, Heartland’s acquisition of the HER mortgage portfolios of Sentinel and ASF, the internalisation of the Kiwi Income Property Trust’s management contract, Fletcher Building’s sale of Rocla Quarries and Vocus’ acquisition of FX Networks.

Graham has also advised on IPOs including EROAD and Airwork and has been involved in primary equity capital raisings for Heartland.

In addition, Graham has worked on a variety of advisory assignments for clients including, Auckland Airport, Fletcher Building, Partners Life, Tourism Holdings and Sanford.

Graham has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Engineering Science and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance and Economics), both from the University of Auckland.

Since joining FNZC, Laura has been involved in a number of transactions including the AFT initial public offering, the sale of Air New Zealand’s stake in Virgin Australia, and the takeover of Hellaby Holdings by  Bapcor, as well as other advisory work for a range of New Zealand corporates.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Laws (1st class Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Otago.

Particular M&A transaction experience includes advising on the $200m investment in Partners Life by Blackstone and the acquisition of a stake in Turners & Growers by Joy Wing Mau. Equity markets experience includes the $263m SKYCITY Entitlement Offer in June 2016, and Heartland Bank primary placement in December 2016.
