James joined FNZCs predecessor Credit Suisse First Boston in 2000 and was appointed Chief Executive in 2017. He previously held the role of Head of Securities with overall responsibility for Wealth Management and Institutional Securities.

James' Australasian focus has ensured he has developed strong relationships with a wide variety of domestic and Australian based clients, both Institutional and Corporate.

By understanding the relative needs of our clients James and his team carved out a reputation for finding unique client-oriented solutions that led to FNZC consistently rating number one in terms of market share and INFINZ rankings.

James has been involved in all of FNZCs Equity Capital transactions for well over a decade, including the recapitalisations post GFC, the mixed ownership model, numerous IPOs / secondary sell downs including bespoke private capital solutions.

James sits on the Board of First NZ Capital Holdings Limited, our governing entity.

Sam was appointed Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking in August 2014.  Sam joined FNZC in 2006 after eight years in Australia with Caliburn, one of Australia’s leading independent advisory firms.

Sam has advised some of NZ's leading companies on a range of strategic advisory, ECM and M&A related matters. Selected transactions include: advising Bapcor Ltd on the takeover of Hellaby, Air New Zealand on the sale of their 25.9% stake in Virgin Australia, Synlait Milk on the investment by Bright Dairy and subsequent IPO, Macquarie Infrastructure on the IPO of Oceania, Direct Capital on the IPO of Scales and NZ King Salmon, Fletcher Building on the sale of Rocla Quarries, Quadrant Private Equity on the acquisition and IPO of Summerset, and Todd Corporation on the sale of their interests in Sky Network Television, ARA wines and Crown Castle Australia.

Sam is an FNZC Board member and sits on the Board of Pearlfisher Capital (FNZC’s non-bank property lending business).

Sam holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Otago.

Richard joined FNZC in 1994 (the firm was then known as CS First Boston) and has over 25 years’ experience in the New Zealand and overseas banking and securities industry.

Richard is responsible for coordinating and driving group strategy for FNZC. In connection with this Richard is responsible for Finance, Operations and Human Resources.

Richard is a member of both the Executive Management Committee and the Investment Risk Committee.

He is also a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

David commenced his career in the sharebroking industry in 1987 at ANZ Securities where he progressed to Managing Director.

He joined Citigroup Global Markets in 1996 where, focussing on global equity sales, his career included postings to Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo and New York.

Prior to joining FNZC as an institutional adviser in February 2009 he was Managing Principal and Head of Equities at Citigroup Global Markets (NZ) Ltd.

Debbie has 15 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry.

Her business experience ranges across NZX Participant firms, Private Wealth Management, Funds Management and Insurance.

Over the last five years, Debbie has specialised in Risk and Compliance Management including the responsibilities of AML/CFT Compliance Manager, NZX Compliance Manager and Privacy Officer.

Prior to joining FNZC in February 2015, she was the Compliance and Risk Manager at JBWere (NZ) Pty Limited. Debbie was a first line of defence Compliance and Operational Risk manager at Westpac NZ Limited in the Private, Wealth and Insurance area.

Debbie is an NZX Adviser, has trained as an Authorised Financial Adviser assessor and has completed her ACI Associate Intensive Risk and Compliance course.

Other experience includes Senior Compliance Officer at ASB Securities Limited and Office Manager at Direct Broking Limited.

Debbie is responsible for FNZC’s Compliance function, which includes working with the business to ensure that legal and regulatory requirements, as well as international best practice standards, are understood and adhered to across the business. She leads a compliance team to deliver compliance education, delivery of regulatory change, liaising with the regulators and providing an independent oversight of internal controls.

Kris joined FNZC in 2004.

Kris has over 15 years experience offshore and in New Zealand in the banking and securities industry. His career history includes Deloitte, BNZ, UBS and Royal Bank of Scotland.

He is responsible for the treasury and financial management and reporting of the firm.

Kris is a member of both the Executive Management Committee and the Investment Risk Committee.

He is also a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Fiona MacKenzie

Fiona MacKenzie

Head of Direct Wealth

Fiona was appointed Head of Direct Wealth in February 2018 and will work with the broader FNZC team to develop investment solutions for retail investors. She is responsible for the strategic alliance with ANZ, including the integration of Direct Broking (formerly known as ANZ Securities).

Prior to joining FNZC, Fiona was Head of External Investments and Partnerships at the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation from 2011 through 2017. She oversaw a portfolio of private equity, private equity real estate, and active return investments.  She was also responsible for the Guardians’ strategic partnerships, both with investment managers and sovereign wealth fund peers. From 2014 through 2016 she was chair of the Guardians’ Investment Committee, which is responsible for the overall portfolio and investment approach.

On her return to New Zealand from the United States in 2009, Fiona joined NZX as Head of Traded Products and then Head of Markets. During her time with NZX she oversaw the launch of the derivatives market and the Fonterra Trading Among Farmers market. Whilst in the United States, Fiona worked within Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Equities Division in New York and then San Francisco.  Prior to business school, she worked with Credit Suisse New York as part of their e-commerce product development team then in the Office of the CFO until 2004.

In her early career Fiona was a Senior Tax Advisor with Deloitte in Auckland. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from Columbia Graduate School of Business (New York) and a BCom (Accounting) / LLB from Otago University. She is a trustee for the Outward Bound Foundation and sits on the Board of INFINZ (Institute of Financial Professionals in New Zealand).
